GDE announces placement progress for next year

As of September 7, about 141 000 applicants have accepted placement offers, while close to 72 000 parents have not responded to placement offers.

Parents and guardians of learners who will be in grades one and eight next year are urged to indicate their choices as to whether they accept their placement offers for their children for the schools chosen or if they would like to accept the offer while awaiting other additional offers.

This is the word from the Gauteng Department of Education MEC Matome Chiloane, who gave an update on the placements for admissions for the 2024 academic year.

“The department is proud to acknowledge that, as of September 7, about 141 000 applicants have accepted placement offers and it remains concerning that close to 72 000 parents have not responded to placement offers.

“The placement progress is significantly slowed by parents who are not accepting placement offers as the spaces are reserved for seven days, while no offers can be released to other applicants from the same school,” said Chiloane.

He added that there are two options to select after offers are issued and parents can either accept placement offers as final or accept placement officers while awaiting additional offers within seven school days.

Applicants with offers not accepted within seven school days will be auto-placed at the school with a placement offer closest to the parent’s home address after the seventh day.

Meanwhile, parents with incomplete applications such as no documents or no valid proof of residence will be able to select a school with available space from December 11.
