Upgrade of prepaid meters across Mogale

Mogale City Local Municipality confirms that software that runs prepaid water and electricity nationwide will expire in 2024.

Software that runs prepaid water and electricity meters nationwide will expire in 2024.

Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) confirmed that without upgrades, consumers will not be able to recharge their meters with new tokens and will be left without water or electricity.

According to MCLM’s communications officer Refilwe Mahlangu, the municipality will be phasing out the old system and embarking on a new system called TID Rollover to comply with required updates as of September 18. The upgrade initiative aims to address the limitations of the old software and meter challenges currently encountered by consumers.

“The upgrade will introduce more ways for consumers to save as the new software presents advanced capabilities, improved safety and reliability, efficiency and power monitoring abilities,” Refilwe said.

The municipality therefore urges residents who have access to this information to assist family members, friends, and neighbours with updates where possible especially the elderly and those with disabilities.

MCLM will provide updates on when the upgrades will be activated.
