Cable theft leads to more power woes in parts of Mogale

The electricity at three areas have been off for most of the day. No estimated time of repair.

Mogale City Energy Services confirmed that power has not been restored in Quellerie Park, Wildtuin Park, Oatlands and Heritage Manor after load-shedding on Wednesday night.

Mogale City Local Municipality’s communications officer Refilwe Mahlangu confirmed that this is a result of cable theft that took place during load-shedding and that the Batavia substation is badly damaged.

“Our technical team has already reached out to several suppliers’ top source replacement units. Once the units are purchased, the lengthy process of transportation, delivery, installation and testing will follow. It will therefore take several hours before the supply can be restored thus no estimated time of restoration can be provided at this point. We continue to appeal to members of the community to help curb vandalism and theft of infrastructure which costs the municipality a substantial amount of money to replace by reporting the culprits.”

Energy Services appealed to residents in affected areas to treat electrical wiring as live and to switch off appliances to avoid injury and damage once electricity is restored.
