Rand Water plant trips due to storm: Mogale City affected as a result

The effects of the thunderstorm have resulted in the loss of two million litres per day says Rand Water and Mogale City is not spared.

Power lines at Rand Water’s Zuikerbosch Water Treatment plant tripped around midnight on Tuesday, 19 September due to a severe thunderstorm which in turn has affected the water supply.

Attempts to restart the plant revealed faults along the power lines supplying the auxiliary plant. The power failure resulted in the loss of two million litres of water per day.

Mogale City Local Municipality communications officer Refilwe Mahlangu confirmed to Krugersdorp News that this will affect all municipalities that receive water supplied by the Zuikerbosch Water Treatment Plant, including Mogale City.

“Some of our local areas are already experiencing low water pressure or have no water supply,” Mahlangu confirmed.

This incident occurred while water systems have been recovering from being strained due to last week’s extended load-shedding and the high water demand is going to worsen the situation. Rand Water therefore urges residents to adopt water-saving measures to reduce high consumption.

Rand Water apologises to all residents who have been inconvenienced.
