Young Kennies actor dominates national event

Johandre Viljoen, a Grade Five learner and talented actor from Laerskool Kenmare is making a name for himself.

Laerskool Kenmare has a talented actor in their midst. Johandre Viljoen impressed at the South African Championships of Performing Arts (SACOPA) in Rustenburg recently.

Johandre is a Grade Five learner at the school and represented Gauteng in the acting categories of gold solo classic, gold solo comic, gold solo contemporary, gold solo drama and gold solo open. It was his third year taking part in the competition and he managed to blow the judges away having received the Overall Trophy award (gold) for acting in the age group five to 12 years. He was also the best male actor having scored the highest mark in one of the drama categories.

To add to this incredible achievement, learners who received a gold medal are now part of the South African national team to take part in the World Championships to be held in Los Angeles, California in July 2024.

It’s a special achievement for the Kennies learner and no one was more chuffed than his mom, Jolene.

“He is a proud ambassador who has worked hard and demonstrated perseverance. We are very proud of him. He held his school, the drama studio, and the community’s name high at nationals,” said Jolene.

SACOPA was first hosted in 1998 to showcase some of the most talented and gifted children in the country on the big stage. SACOPA is a national competition for both novice and experienced performers and includes a variety of categories in which contestants can showcase their talent in acting, dance, instrumental performances, and modelling to name a few.
