ECD centres awarded for dedication at prestigious event

Early childhood development centres from across the country were awarded for their efforts in helping children take their first education steps at a ceremony held at Silverstar.

Play with a Purpose Educational Trust held an awards ceremony at Silverstar to honour various early childhood development (ECD) centres for their efforts in ensuring the development of children.

Play with a Purpose invited several ECDs from all over the country as they received recognition in many categories these centres excel in ranging from admin and numeracy to overall standards.

The organisation has several programmes designed to help children succeed from any socio-economic background.

According to the founder of the organisation, Robyn Wienand, they have over 30 years of experience in community and early childhood development.

Adele van Groentjies representing Groentjies Day Care won the Best Admin award.

“We mentor ECD centres on educational programmes and business skills which enable children to meet their full potential as they get older,” Wienand said.

On top of that, they are also the first ever education institution in the world to be accredited by the International Standards Organisation (ISO 9001) which is an accreditation that ensures the quality of management and business practices are world-class.

Mary Sinodisi and Magaret le Roux represent the Golang ECD centre.

The main beneficiaries of their services are children under the age of six years old, programme educators and ECD leaders.

Several centres from many provinces and some on the West Rand were represented as they picked up some awards for their efforts in helping children take their first steps in education.

One of them was Tjokkertjies vir Jesus which is an ECD centre based in Krugersdorp West.
