Wash-and-Spoil-a-Basset day this weekend
Calling all Basset lovers – help Huis Hersblaar care for its animals.
Huis Hersblaar is reaching out to compassionate Basset hound enthusiasts and animal lovers to support their shelter, which is in urgent need of cleaning supplies and other essentials.
Karen du Plessis, an approved foster representative for the South African Basset Association (SABA), explained that Huis Hersblaar is more than just an animal shelter – it’s a home for a wide variety of animals.
Situated on a plot in Wheatlands, Randfontein, the shelter cares for 47 dogs alongside sheep, goats, and even donkeys.
“This is not your typical shelter. It’s a sanctuary where animals are part of the family,” said Karen. “But with so many animals sharing the space, maintaining cleanliness is a huge challenge. Huis Hersblaar is in dire need of cleaning supplies, including disinfectants, plastic bags, old towels, cushions, and bug-repellent spray to manage the flies.”
For those who wish to help, Karen encourages donations of any of these items. She can be contacted on 067 875 2623 and is happy to deliver contributions directly to the shelter.
Additionally, supporters are invited to join the shelter on Saturday, December 7, between 10:00 and 14:00 for a special “Wash-and-Spoil-a-Basset” day at Huis Hersblaar, located on Plot 43.
Visitors can enjoy the day with the lovable Bassets, donate a tin of food as entrance, and even consider adopting one of the charming hounds. Your kindness can make a world of difference for Huis Hersblaar’s animals.
