Don’t be a victim of a crime, you can prevent it
Police give tips to be more vigilant to prevent residents from being a victim of a crime that could be prevented.
With theft, hijackings and robberies rife in the community, some tips on how to be more vigilant could help prevent you from becoming a victim of crime.
The first thing Karen du Plessis, spokesperson for the Krugersdorp Police’s Flying Squad, listed is to place your valuable items such as handbags and laptops in the boot of your vehicle to keep them out of sight.
“Residents should also pay close attention when driving home to see if you’re being followed to prevent crimes such as hijackings, home invasions and robberies,” she advised.
She also advised, when at an ATM, and before starting your transaction, check if the keypad or card slot has been jammed or tampered with.
“Children who walk home from school can also be targets for criminals. They should be encouraged to walk in groups in bigger numbers, to reduce the risk of them being targets,” she encouraged.
She concluded where possible, avoid displaying your cell phones or any valuables in public areas, as this might draw the attention of criminals.
