Out with the old, in with the new at Leratong
It's out with the old and in with the new Gauteng College of Nursing (GCON) Council at Leratong Hospital.

Energy and excitement filled the air recently as the new Gauteng College of Nursing (GCON) Council at the Bonalesedi Campus at Leratong Hospital was elected.
The Gauteng MEC for Health and Wellness, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko, officiated the inauguration and constitution of the new GCON Council.
According to the head of communications at the Department of Health, Motaletale Modiba, the GCON Council is responsible for overseeing the governance, strategic direction, and policy development of the nursing college.

”Its primary mandate is to ensure that nursing education in the province meets the highest standards of excellence and produces skilled, compassionate, and competent nurses to serve in Gauteng’s healthcare system. GCON was officially established in 2019 to centralise and standardise nursing education in the province,” Modiba said.
Modiba added that the programme was part of a broader vision to align nursing training with national higher education frameworks and ensure that Gauteng produces well-trained nurses who are equipped to serve in both primary and specialised healthcare settings.
“The inauguration marks the installation of the second GCON Council since the amalgamation of the previous four colleges to form one entity,” Modiba concluded.
