WATCH: A loaf of bread vs suspected homeless man: Buddy, that’s not a ball!

A video has gone viral showing a man, believed to be homeless, kicking around a loaf of bread that was allegedly given to him.

A donated loaf of bread vs a furious reaction – what went wrong?

A video showing a man, believed to be homeless, kicking a loaf of bread and eventually tossing it into a dustbin at the intersection of Paardekraal Drive and Voortrekker Road – near a well-known shopping centre – has gone viral.

Captured by a motorist’s dashcam, the footage shows the man standing on the traffic island, accepting the bread (presumably offered by a kind stranger), before angrily kicking it across the road multiple times. He then throws it into a nearby bin.

The community has since expressed outrage at the homeless man’s apparent disregard for the generous offer intended to ease his hunger.

It raises a difficult question: Who can you help, and who might reject that help? Many residents are struggling – but how do you know whom to trust?

Homelessness is a widespread issue across Krugersdorp and the greater West Rand. Beggars are a familiar sight on nearly every street corner. So common that their absence is often more noticeable than their presence. The open hands and familiar “I’m hungry, please help” gestures have become part of the everyday landscape.

But how do you decide who genuinely needs help? Who will gratefully accept a meal – and who will discard it once your back is turned? Who might sell your kindness for their next fix?

After watching the video, how do you, as a resident, feel? Will it make you hesitate the next time someone asks for help?
