Mayor Sele inspires acts of giving across the city
Mogale City Local Municipality's mayor reached out to several public institutions in honour of Mandela Day.
The true measure of a life is the impact people have on others, and guided by the values of humility, service and unity preached by Nelson Mandela, Executive Mayor Lucky Sele led by example, transforming Mandela Day into a city-wide effort focused on selfless acts of service and giving.
According to MCLM communications officer Refilwe Mahlangu, activities began at Munsieville Primary School, where enthusiastic learners received new school shoes.
The mayor also joined staff and students in planting vegetables in the school’s food garden. Later, at Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital, the mayor participated in a large-scale clean-up with health workers, restoring freshness to this public health space. Inspired by the occasion, hospital staff donated food parcels to a local NGO, showcasing the true spirit of the day.
The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture hosted an afternoon of youth sport and development at Magaliesburg Secondary School. Mayor Sele, along with MMCs Kholeka Mandyu and Victor Molefe, joined the Deputy Minister of Sport, Pule Mabe, in encouraging young people competing in various sporting events.
“Mandela Day calls on all South Africans to give 67 minutes of their time in honour of the 67 years Nelson Mandela dedicated to fighting for social justice. It is a day when simple acts of service create an extraordinary impact, and this year, Mogale City embraced the call to serve, embodying it in true Madiba style,” Sele said.
