Monnas learner and pageant winner aims to inspire change

At just 17, Sharica Bondesio is making a powerful impact by providing essential sanitary products to girls in need.

Sharica Bondesio from Loumarina, a 17-year-old learner at Hoërskool Monument High School, started the Pink Box Project to provide sanitary products to those in need and make a difference in her community.

She explained that since she was eight, she felt the need to make a difference in her community. Three years ago, she founded the project, showing that passion and purpose have no age limit.

This year, Sharica was crowned Miss Teen International South Africa, and in November, she is set to represent her country on the global stage in Peru for the Miss Teen International title. She hopes to use this platform to make a lasting change in her community.

“I firmly believe that it’s not always the big things that make a difference, but the small things also matter! My inspiration for starting the Pink Box Project came after learning how many young girls miss out on valuable education simply because they lack access to basic sanitary products,” said Sharica.

She noted that since its initial establishment, she has helped around 50 girls stay in school, every month, for the school year. This year, she hopes to double the number of girls she helps.

The first Pink Box was recently installed at Phatudi Primary School in celebration of Women’s Month. Sharica also spoke to the girls about hygiene, dignity and the importance of education.

“The project relies heavily on the kindness and generosity of the community. Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a tangible difference. Anyone who would like to donate or get involved can join me on this journey of changing lives, one box at a time.”

Any person who would like to contribute can contact Erica on 071 959 5283 or send an email to bondesioe@gmail.com.
