Westcol students protest over non-payment of NSFAS funding

Students protest at Westcol over alleged unpaid NSFAS funding, blocking roads with rocks.

Students are currently protesting at Westcol, located at the intersection of Von Brandis and Rissik Street in the Krugersdorp CBD.

The Krugersdorp News is on the scene, where dozens of protesters have gathered alongside a police presence.

Bonisan Sithole said the protest is over the delayed National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) funding.

NSFAS is a bursary scheme funded by the Department of Higher Education and Training. More information about NSFAS.

“We want answers from the college. How is it that some learners receive full funding, others half, and some none at all?” Sithole said.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
