Lunar Moon sizzles during hotpot night
Silverstar’s Lunar Moon Asian Cuisine brings the West Rand its first hotpot night, packed with sushi, seafood and interactive flavours.
Lunar Moon Asian Cuisine at Silverstar recently caused a sensation on the West Rand by hosting its first-ever hotpot night – a communal dining experience that brought the casino’s VIP guests together over simmering broths, fresh ingredients and lots of laughter.
Hotpot, a much-loved tradition across Asia, is quickly gaining popularity locally, and restaurant director Erin Pan says social media has played a big role in introducing younger diners to this interactive style of dining.

The concept is simple yet indulgent: Diners cook high-quality ingredients – think wafer-thin meats, succulent seafood, crisp vegetables and springy noodles – in a bubbling, aromatic broth right at the table. Once cooked, everything is dipped into an array of flavourful sauces, allowing each guest to tailor every bite.
Lunar Moon showcased the diversity of the dish beautifully, with touches inspired by Chinese, Japanese and Korean variations.

But the hotpot was just the beginning. Guests were also treated to Lunar Moon’s upgraded sushi menu, including perfectly flamed aburi sushi and playful Western twists such as cheese-topped rolls. Seafood lovers were in heaven, with lobster, crab, prawns, clams, oysters and fresh fish prepared with authentic Asian techniques that highlighted each ingredient’s natural flavours.
The meat offerings did not disappoint. Peking duck was tender and richly flavoured, orange chicken was both sweet and zesty, and the black pepper beef ribs delivered a smoky kick. Noodle and rice dishes rounded out the menu, with the beef hot and sour soup with noodles stealing the show – a comforting, tangy bowl that lingered long after the last sip.

Dim sum fans were also well catered for. Crystal prawn dumplings, delicate soup dumplings and perfectly pan-seared gyoza added another layer of indulgence to the evening, making it clear that Lunar Moon is more than just a hotpot destination.

By the night’s end, diners were not only satisfied but impressed by the quality, variety and playful twists on classic Asian flavours. Many vowed it would not be their last visit. Lunar Moon Asian Cuisine’s hotpot night was a delicious success, proving that interactive, shareable dining experiences can be both fun and unforgettable.
