Baboon sighted in Noordheuwel

Residents are urged to remain calm after a lone male baboon was spotted moving through the suburb on December 26.

A male baboon was spotted in the Noordheuwel area earlier today, December 26.

According to Community Led Animal Welfare founder, Cora Bailey, the sighting is no cause for concern.

She explained that it is natural for a young male baboon to leave its troop while searching for a new one, and that the animal is simply passing through the area.

“This baboon is passing through town and is not a threat to humans, unless it is threatened,” Bailey said.

She added that residents should not panic and are encouraged to give the baboon space and avoid any interaction so it can move on safely.
