Kenmare fire victim confirmed as 70-year-old woman

A 70-year-old woman was found dead following a fire incident in Kenmare recently, Mogale Fire and Rescue confirmed.

Following a reported death during a fire incident in Kenmare on the afternoon of January 23, Mogale Fire and Rescue has provided an update.

According to station officer Jaco van der Westhuizen, upon arrival at the scene, firefighters found the deceased outside a building, with a section of the roof still smouldering.

“Only a single rafter was smouldering. We extinguished it and covered the deceased with a space blanket,” he said.

Van der Westhuizen added that multiple emergency resources were present at the scene, including Station 38 Fire and Rescue, as well as several paramedic and ambulance services.

He confirmed that the deceased was a 70-year-old woman and noted that the only challenge faced during the incident was managing the number of spectators at the scene.
