Noordheuwel residents warned of loud blasts today
The warning is especially important for pet owners, as loud explosions may startle animals in the area.
Residents of Noordheuwel are advised that authorised blasting activity is scheduled to take place today, August 31.
BCI Security’s chief communications officer Paul Catlett confirmed that the activity is planned and legally authorised and will be conducted in accordance with the required regulatory permissions and safety procedures.
“During the operation, residents in the surrounding area may hear one or more loud explosions or experience noise and possible vibration. Please do not be unnecessarily alarmed,” said Catlett.
Notice to pet owners
Residents are strongly encouraged to take additional precautions with their animals. Sudden loud noises can frighten dogs, cats, horses and other animals, even from some distance away.
Pet owners are advised to ensure that:
• pets are safely secured
• gates and fences are closed
• nervous animals are preferably kept indoors or in a familiar, secure environment; and
• pets cannot bolt through an open gate or escape from the property if startled
“We are sharing this information in advance purely as a community safety and awareness notice, particularly so that families and pet owners have an opportunity to prepare,” he said.
Residents are urged not to approach or interfere with any controlled operational area and to follow any safety instructions given by authorised personnel on site.
“There is no need for panic. This is a planned, authorised operation,” he concluded.
