Curamus School for Autism kicked off its Spring Market with a gala event on August 31.

Curamus provides specialised education to learners on the autism spectrum, focusing on equipping them with academic, social and vocational skills to support greater independence and community integration.

The school’s annual Spring Market, celebrating its 10th year, started on September 1 and continues until September 5. According to the principal, Michelle van Zyl, the market serves as a fundraiser to keep the school operational and fund its feeding scheme.

“Our feeding scheme not only caters to our learners, but extends into their homes by feeding 62 families every Friday,” Michelle explained.

The principal encourages the community to visit the market’s stalls as a family outing. A special stall sells handcrafted items and plants produced by the learners.

“This is our biggest market to date, as it will be running for almost an entire week. We particularly look forward to Saturday, when all our learners will have a walk around the school, and we want to get the community involved,” she concluded.
