Millies hits hole-in-one with new principal
Although he would not want to change anything, the new principal of Laerskool Millennium Primary does have a few plans up his sleeve to help learners be the best they can be.
Laerskool Millennium Primary School recently appointed the vastly experienced Billy da Silva as principal.
The 56-year-old who boasts an extensive CV in education – from being a teacher at Culembeeck for 14 years, to head of Department and deputy principal at Millennium for seven and eight years respectively – said being appointed as principal was a huge honour.
“It is a tremendous privilege to be the principal of one of the best schools in Krugersdorp. I am looking forward to leading the school to greater heights and making it the best school in town,” he said.
Da Silva described himself as hardworking, loyal, consistent and fair, and even though he is new at the helm of the Millies ship, he refuses to change course and deviate from the legacy left by his predecessor. He does have a few new plans though.
The school was built on a solid foundation by the previous principal and SMT members. I would not change anything; however, I would like to create even more opportunities for learners to excel in all the different areas of academics, culture and sport.
“I would like to help learners improve their reading and comprehension skills by implementing appropriate programmes and strategies, and I plan to build an Enrichment Centre where our academically gifted learners can be exposed to extra stimulating educational opportunities.”
His message to learners and parents is, “Let’s work together as a team to make Millennium’s learners feel at home and help them reach their full potential on an academic, sport and cultural level.”
More about Da Silva:
• Born and bred in Florida, Roodepoort. Currently resides in Noordheuwel
• A formidable badminton player in his younger days
• One of his biggest hobbies is golf
“I am proud to say that I have a hole-in-one behind my name.”
