Jan de Klerk appoints first female principal
Jan de Klerk appointed their first female principal and she hopes to inspire through education.
Sarita Daniel was recently appointed as the first female principal at Hoërskool Jan de Klerk.
She explained her journey to the News as an educator and what it meant for her to have made history.
Sarita has been an educator for almost three decades and has been working at Jan de Klerk since 2010. She started as a teacher and would eventually move up to be the head of the Afrikaans department. For her becoming an educator was a no-brainer as she was raised by two educators. Her father was a school principal and her mother was a teacher for more than 20 years.
“It runs in the family. I simply see it as a family business if anything. My father was always encouraging and supportive of my endeavours and my mother is very proud of what I was able to accomplish so far because as women we can relate. She never got a chance to be a principal, I am so glad I got to do it for her.”
For Sarita, being the principal is no different than being an educator as she believes that at the end of the day, it’s a team effort because you need people around you to make the school better and also run it properly.
It is worth noting that Sarita has three children and two of them are also studying to become educators themselves. It goes back to what she initially said that it runs in the family to be academics.
