Tarlton police address 500 learners about crime

Learners of Kwaggasfontein Primary School were given important life lessons by the police.

Tarlton Police are doing the best they can to tackle crime in the area and decided to speak to the youth, urging them to become productive members of society as they get older.

On Wednesday, April 26 the police went to visit Kwaggasfontein Primary School to teach learners about the dangers of substance abuse and child trafficking.

The seminar was part of the school’s safety awareness programme which aims to give pupils a role in crime prevention and teach them to be more vigilant. Those present at the event included the Krugersdorp Police, Department of Health, Mogale City Social Services, Co-operate support services, West View Clinic, Old Mutual, the Victim Empowerment Centre, Tarlton Community Police Forum and Teddy Bear Clinic.

During the programme over 500 learners from grades 5 to 7 were reached and during the programme, the learners and teachers were allowed to ask questions and express their concerns.

Tarlton Police Station Commander Lieutenant Colonel Minky Magooe also addressed the learners and encouraged them to report crime by calling 011 952 0012 or the crime stop number 0800 10111.

The programme ended on a high note as learners and teachers thanked the police and the stakeholders for their time to educate them on crime prevention.
