Glitz, glam and charity at KHS pageant

The annual Mr and Miss Krugersdorp High School event may have been one of the best so far as it was also held to raise funds for the school learners who need support.

It was lights, camera and action when Krugersdorp High School (KHS) presented their Mr and Miss senior pageant.

The audience was treated to amazing choreography, dancing and singing, sparkling personalities and all-around fun at Silverstar on May 19. The theme of the pageant was Proudly South African – The Rainbow Nation and as much as it was about the glitz and glam, the pageant was also held as a fundraiser for KHS’ school-based support team (SBST).

The emotional well-being of a learner can affect how they manage day to day. The SBST provides a safety net and safe space for these learners, they have two social workers who provide support to the teachers and learners. Their services also include crisis management, counselling and family intervention. They also identify and support at-risk learners during their educational journey.

Other support programmes rendered by the SBST include the sickbay, feeding scheme, family food parcels, toiletry and stationery schemes, book packs, and the second-hand school uniform project that are dependent on donations.

The evening started with introductions from the glamorous sports broadcaster, Carol Tshabalala while real estate agents Christiaan Myburgh and Neal van den Berg together with KHS alumni Tefelo Mogape, TV personality Brinnette Seopela, fashion designer Diaan Daniels, local activist Lebogang Ramafoko and Mrs Universe South Africa Ginase Melody Miya were the judges for the evening.

The 30 finalists entertained the audience with their dance moves, which showcased the different cultures of the rainbow nation. In between the audience was also entertained by Glee, the school’s choir, while singer Tanya V had the audience out of their chairs dancing and singing along. Comedian Bongani Dube and the Delivery Boys also left the audience in stitches.

When it came to the crowning, it was Michael Garzancich who was Mr Photogenic and Ntombi Kolisile who was Miss Photogenic.

Mr Personality went to Dré Choudree and Miss Personality to Linda Hleli. Rogan Steyn was voted Mr Debutante and Andrea Hummerstone Miss Debutante.
