Running is fun, Alma Mater proves it

More than 110 participants supported Alma Mater's annual morning fun run and walk.

The Alma Mater International School family (both Primary and High School) hosted their annual morning fun run and walk recently.

What has been described as a proud school tradition, the event was also open to the community. Even dogs were welcome to jog along on the day.

According to one of the school’s Head of Sports, Thapelo Wolf, the event had over 110 participants.

Elza van Aardt, Annete Strydom, Ann van der Merwe and Holly Backman.

”The Alma Mater fun run and walk has a rich history that dates back to 2021. The first-morning event was organised by Alma Mater’s Sport Department which included sports directors, coaches and teachers. We wanted to promote physical activity and encourage not only our learners but the community at large to live an active and healthy lifestyle.”

Khayelihle Zwane and Nontsikelelo Mabusela.

He added the run is held four times a year where the distance is usually 1.7km. The months in which they host the runs are usually January, February, March and November.

“This also helps us to boost the overall morale and spirit of the school as we want our learners to participate in extra murals.”
