“Will my dog go to heaven?”

Loyalty – isn’t it amazing how loyal some dogs are to their owners?

One of the questions people often ask me is, “Will my dog go to heaven?”

For some people it is a stupid question, but for many it is a sincere question.

Now you probably would want to know the pastor’s answer.

It is simple, I don’t know. God created animals with the same care and love that he created us.

In fact, it is possible to see more godly characteristics in dogs for example, than in some people.

Loyalty – isn’t it amazing how loyal some dogs are to their owners?

Sitting at the gate waiting for hours, at times even pining to death for an owner who does not return.

A dog is a great example of God’s forgiveness. If you beat a dog, or even kick it and soon it will snuggle up to you again, all forgiven.

Grateful for every gift and all kindness shown, dogs exhibit more of its creator’s characteristics than many humans.

That is why people say, “The more I look at people, the more I love my dog”.

Wouldn’t it be sad if God, after watching our behaviour, is overheard saying, “The more I look at people, the more I love dogs”?

After all is said and done, judging by sheer behaviour, some dogs are probably more fit for heaven than some people who fill the pews of our churches.

Next time you look at your dog, or cat, stop and think about God for a moment.

God put into these simple creatures a part of himself for us to appreciate.
