Don’t judge

Pastor Gerrit Mes; from the pulpit.

Don’t judge! A year or so ago a fellow minister in town went through a difficult time.

A number of people spoke to me about the situation and, yes, I did it again. I came to my own conclusion based on hear say, judge, jury and executioner. Over a period of time I have developed a close friendship with the minister. Now, with more facts at my disposal I can judge with more accuracy. No! No one except God knows everything including the secrets of our hearts.

If anyone could judge people it was Jesus. He knew everything. But Jesus, strangely enough, didn’t judge people. Even a woman who had been married 5 times and was now living in sin didn’t receive judgment. Another woman who was caught in the act of adultery and brought to Jesus, heard these words, “neither do I judge you”.

We all come across people and situations that we judge.

Pointing a finger rather than lending a hand. Maybe it is fitting to quote one of Jesus’ wise sayings, “He that is without sin, let him cast the first stone.” Our churches would be better places to be if we were a bit more like Jesus, slow to judge, quick to forgive.

Next time you are ready to judge, stop, say a prayer and do what Jesus would do.
