People love sport. Our stadiums, 24/7 TV coverage, and billions of rands annually prove that we are sport crazy.
Week after week these professionals give their all to entertain us and to pick up a handsome prize. We have our favourite teams and, yes, our favourite sportsman.
But while a few actively take part in sport, millions just watch.
Isn’t that what happens in our churches? A few participants and a gallery full of spectators, coaches and critics that give advice but don’t play the game.
I once heard a perfect description of a rugby match, 30 people who desperately need rest, watched by 50 000 who equally desperately need exercise.
You are not a pastor, dominee or reverend. What can you do? The truth is you can do more than you may think. Just live right. You don’t have to preach a single sermon but your life can attract people to your Lord.
Some of you may agree with me when I say, one life lived for Christ can make a bigger impact than a 1 000 sermons. A smile, a kind word, a prayer at the right moment is powerful enough to break a rock-hard heart.
Imagine the feeling at night as you are ready to fall asleep, knowing that you made a difference in a stranger’s life.
Don’t be scared, just do it and enjoy the feeling.
