Most provinces and cities have their own community television stations.
There is Soweto TV for Soweto, Tshwane TV for Tshwane, KwaZulu-Natal TV for KwaZulu-Natal, just to name three.
When will Mogale City have its own television station? It seems the city is lagging behind in terms of media development.
But I digress. Kgosi Khumalo has been an artist for more than 20 years. He has won several awards to show for it and has featured in various newspapers and magazines for his art works. The man loves and lives for art.
Khumalo, who has turned his parents’ modest house into an art gallery – the only art gallery in a location on the West Rand – has been commissioned by Channel 161 on DStv to produce three Lokshin Bioskops in Kagiso.
This definitely will put Kagiso on the map.
The artist-cum-entrepreneur has invited all those who are interested (but mainly from Kagiso) in taking part in the Bioskops for auditions. These are scriptwriters, actors and so on. And it appears auditions already have started.
The Lokshin Bioskop project will help unearth local talent, nurture and expose it to the entertainment industry. This is an opportunity that local budding artists and scriptwriters cannot afford to lose. This might turn out to be their lucky break into the cut-throat industry.
Filming is a costly affair and needs a fat budget. Hence we have very few film makers, especially from a disadvantaged background. This makes me wonder if Khumalo has the budget to produce three films as commissioned by the aforementioned channel.
It is my humble prayer that he will get a sponsor to produce the required films. It is also my hope that the Department of Arts and Culture and local business will come to the party and help wherever possible.
It seems Khumalo is the first artist in Mogale City, if not on the West Rand, to be commissioned to produce three Lokshin Bioskops by a DStv channel. This must be a dream come true for the talented artist. All the best, Mtungwa, and keep up the good work.
