Tragedies happen occasionally

Hercules du Preez from Silverfields writes:

Friedrich Heinrich Pistorius was born in Weimar Thüringen, Germany in 1789.

In 1838 he arrived in South Africa with his common law wife Auguste von Landsberg and eight children.

What makes a 49-year-old man leave beautiful Weimar? Only one thing – extreme poverty.

Today the family are millionaires. Oom Hendrik (96) established his fertiliser business in 1944. I inspected his numerous fertiliser plants for 20 years. Leo Pistorius once proudly pointed out to me that in all these years none of their personnel went on a strike because they pay above average salaries.

What happened between Oscar and Reeva was a tragedy. But tragedies happen occasionally.

In 1970 Constantia millionaire Ronald John Vivian Cohen killed his 25-years-old Swedish wife Susan Johnson with a marble statuette. He received a 12-year prison sentence.
