Need help to start something great

Kylie Douglas from Krugersdorp writes:

The news recently ran a story about Brenda Meyer and the dogs at Husky Heaven.

I have worked with Brenda before and with most of the other Husky rescues in the area. There is a huge misconception when people buy the breed for their beauty without knowing what they are getting into.

I concentrate on rehabilitating the Huskies that have been mistreated so that they can be reintegrated into a family situation and I train them to behave more like other breeds with regard to obedience.

With no funds I am trying to start a rehabilitation and training centre for them. But I have noticed that they are far more intuitive and responsive than other breeds and they would be a perfect fit for service dogs with regard to children and terminally ill people.

I refer to Dogs for Heroes which is in America. They pair up pit bull Terriers with war veterans who have post-traumatic stress syndrome.

I am hoping to do something similar, using the Huskies to help children especially.

If there is someone interested in helping or at least giving me some insight as to what groups and organisations are here in Krugersdorp, I would much appreciate it.

We are starting small, but maybe with a little help and a whole lot of effort we can help the dogs and they can help people who really need someone in their lives whom they can turn to.
