Late in April I went to draw money at the ATM at the little complex on Voortrekker Road in Noordheuwel.
As I was walking to the machine, I dropped my card and it landed in a manhole. I did not know what to do. I tried to phone my husband to cancel the card and intended on leaving it there.
The car guard saw me standing at this drain and asked if he could help me, as my husband did not answer his phone.
I explained to him what had happened. He told me to wait five minutes and returned with what seemed to be a wire from a coat hanger. Within 10 minutes, he retrieved my card.
I could not believe it, as the opening was just too small for a hand. I drew my money and rewarded him. I was just so grateful as I especially took off from work to attend to some business. This would have ruined my entire day.
I don’t know his name, but I am so grateful.
