Well these past couple of weeks have been a trying time for Krugersdorp residents.
We have had to deal with no water and no electricity. 12 May was an all-time low for me.
My morning started with no water when I woke up just after 5am. At 1.15pm the electricity went off and as I am writing this at 10.25pm, it is still off.
Calls to Eskom are met with, “Ask your municipality who regulates their own power”.
That municipality as a matter of principle does not deem it necessary to perform such a menial task as answering a phone.
To put the proverbial cherry on the cake Mogale City sent me an sms while I was sitting in the dark informing me that my bill this month is … and I am wondering what am I paying for; not service because that I do not get.
So why do we pay our bills to municipalities that do not hand over the money to Eskom? Why should Eskom get a tariff increase?
To give their execs bigger bonuses.
Stop bailing out Eskom and privatise electricity supply like the Canadians did. The next stop of course is making the municipality accountable to us. After all, we pay their salaries.
