I am utterly disgusted with the level of intelligence, work ethics and effectiveness at the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) in Krugersdorp.
Firstly, my wife Magdi Kruger, went to DHA on Tuesday 9 June to get a passport application.
Upon arrival, at least 70 people stood in the queue and suddenly there was no power.
We decided she would go back the following day, because by this time we were made aware “it’s not their fault”.
Eskom was probably to blame.
Arriving the next day at 1.30pm, she received number 254 in the queue, made the R400 payment required for a passport application and took a seat.
After waiting two and a half hours, they called number 262, skipping eight people.
Upon querying this, the official’s reply was that they did call her and the other eight people’s numbers.
How on earth is this possible?
After waiting and seeing how staff walk around, taking their time, taking lunch breaks without someone else replacing their position, it was now already closing time.
All the staff members started to pack up without saying a word with the hall still full of people waiting to be helped.
The official thanked everyone and asked them to come back the following day, which my wife cannot do as she is helping children with their exams.
This is not my first complaint. I have complained at DHA many times before and to this day I have not received any reply to my complaints.
What should I do as a citizen of Krugersdorp to get something done?
At this stage our hands are cut off. There is no alternative than just to sit and wait and see how your life passes by.
