South Africa 2015. Let’s be honest, it is not easy.
Many people are unemployed. Others feel insecure in their jobs, never knowing when they will be retrenched. Crime and corruption affect our lives. You are the wrong colour, the wrong age or you have too much or too little experience.
Things are extremely expensive. Food, fuel and school fees kill us. You feel you cannot trust the police or the politicians. In the midst of this doom and gloom I have some genuine good news.
If you really start counting your blessings, soon enough you will start saying, “Thank you, God!”
Don’t just look at people who have more than you have; look at the millions that have less.
You can be an instrument to bring a bit of joy into other people’s lives. It won’t cost you a cent.
Just a smile, a greeting or a compliment can change somebody’s day. Shared joy is double joy. The one who fills your car with petrol, the lady at the till in a busy shop, the car park attendant – all are persons. You may not be able to change their world, but you can bring a single ray of light into one dark soul with a simple act of kindness.
On Sunday morning I remarked to someone, “Every house has a cross.” You can imagine my surprise and joy when the person replied with, “Yes, but nobody has to carry his cross alone.”
Ask God today to use you to bring a bit of light into someone’s dark day. All it takes is an act of kindness.
