Card cloning is taking place in the Krugersdorp CBD.
Early in the morning the perpetrators tell us the ATM at the corner of Monument and Burger Streets is out of order and they show us to one that is working. But this machine swallows your card in the first attempt.
It seems like the perps then come back immediately after you have left to retrieve your card and withdraw money from your account.
My wife recently fell victim to the scam. She managed to stop all transactions on time, yet the idiot tried more than 14 times to withdraw money.
I suggest if a bank cannot secure their ATMs overnight, then it is wise to close them until the next morning to prevent tampering with the machines.
