We all face giants in our lives. The giant may be a divorce, the loss of a job or the death of a family member. The giant may be cancer or some other debilitating experience. Without exception we all have faced giants and in the future you will face other giants.
The young boy, David, armed with a simple sling and a few little stones, faced a giant. Most of us would have frozen in fear standing in the shadow of this giant.
Not only was he big, he was strong and extremely well equipped. In Goliath’s formidable shadow, David must have looked small, weak and under equipped. The difference is simple. Instead of David seeing himself in Goliath’s shadow, David saw Goliath in God’s shadow. As we face our giants, our mountains, our enemies, we need to learn a lesson from David. The issue is not the size of your opponent, but the size of your God.
As I learn to see all my challenges in God’s shadow, my faith just grows.
I really don’t know what you are facing today. I cannot even begin to understand what you are going through. Quick fixes and easy solutions won’t help you. Your giant is big and real and your heart may be filled with fear.
Do what David did, put your little stone in its sling and face your giant by trusting God.
PS. The bigger the giant, the easier he is to hit. Amen.
