Why comply if the system does not work?

Petra Sendef from Krugersdorp writes:

At the end of June 2015 I was retrenched. I have been unemployed since and have two small children to support.

Even though I applied for UIF at the Krugersdorp Department of Labour at the beginning of July 2015, my claim has not been processed. I have spent many hours sitting at the office, but to no avail.

I have phoned numerous times, only to be told the paperwork is not captured yet. I then escalated the enquiry to the manager, but he never returns my calls. I even contacted the Minister of Labour in Pretoria only to be referred to the UIF call centre.

However, no one ever answers when you phone the call centre. I never have claimed UIF before, even though I was eligible to.

My question is, why do companies have to comply to UIF when the Department of Labour doesn’t bother to pay out the claims when people like me so desperately need it?
