Perhaps once tragedy strikes government will act

Derek Carter from Krugersdorp writes:

I was part of the R28/ Hendrik Potgieter Road action group many years ago, trying to persuade the Gauteng Department of Transport to build a flyover at this intersection.

After many hours of meetings with the department it was agreed that this flyover would be moved to the top of the list for action.

Apart from the traffic lights being installed no further action has been taken.

Unfortunately, it would take a major disaster like a runaway truck hitting a taxi or school bus for action to be taken.

Last week a runaway truck careered through the intersection, luckily not hitting anything.

I cannot believe that an environmental impact assessment was done to allow a mall to be built without a flyover being constructed.

This is the only intersection where two roads cross between Mogale City and Polokwane.

It is time the residents of Mogale City once again stood together to get some action on this matter.
