as they prepare themselves for work, for school, while the unemployed arranged piece jobs for the day. In the same breath sports lovers equally experience opportunity as they are informed by Desteny Musia who host Onside Sports show (Monday – Friday at 7pm until 9pm).
The South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) Mogale City Zonal structure applauded Patrick Rankatisho for his great initiative in establishing a youth radio station, Mogale FM.
In fact, Mogale FM was born at the same time as the Westside FM. Interestingly, both community radio stations are located in the same area, Kagiso. And it also covers more or less the same area – the West Rand.
Rankatisho popularly known as GP to his listeners, Lerato Mothwa and Thando The Rain Queen Khambule co-host of an informative programme IKetleng (10am until 2pm) weekdays. The station managed to get a frequency, being 93.6 FM. Made in the West Rand.
Mogale FM comprises public, commercial and community elements, and the system make use of radio frequencies that are public property and provides, through its programming, a public service necessary for the maintenance of a West Rand identity, universal access, equality, unity and diversity.
As we acknowledge that Mogale FM services are owned and controlled by communities, Sanco appealed to Mogale FM listeners not to shy away from asking difficult questions where they see something is wrong.
Let me ask a question to the Mogale FM authorities: When will the advisory body be launched? The advisory body is a statutory body whose members are appointed in terms of a sub-section and must be determined by the minister in concurrence with the Minister of Finance.
In terms of the Broadcasting Act listeners had a responsibility to ensure that the radio station functioned effectively and that managers discharged their duties accordingly.
Of course Palesa Azania Makhaphela who hosts Street Wyz drive fully agrees with the Act. Xolani Magaqa a presenter of Iziqci Zoqobo every Saturday morning has been assigned to deal with ideas, values and artistic creativity, culture and language.
