I travel and live near a shopping centre in Noordheuwel. I am very disgusted with the police for not responding to complaints about people wandering around and making use of public grounds to party on a Saturday and Sunday until after 8pm.
Every weekend after the shops have closed, the parking area turns into a general pub and party venue. There are constant shouting, drinking and throwing junk all over. When you pass to the garage you are welcomed by drunks’ remarks and afterwards you have to pick up all the junk as this is the norm, week after week. Forget about having a quiet weekend, you can hardly hear yourself.
Taxis and cars drop off people and they just add to the party vibe. Car doors are opened so that everybody can hear the music. I contacted the police on numerous occasions without any luck. The one officer asked me if I really wanted to report this. Apparently there is no law against drinking and shouting in public. People are allowed to sit and watch the whole neighbourhood while children waiting for parents after school sports events are unsafe and nobody is allowed to complain.
Surely if taxis are supposed to pick up staff this is not only happening at 8pm; this is a cause for concern as the crime in Bell and Van Oord Streete, and Nupen and Shannon Roads and surrounding areas increase week after week. I can not believe that on Saturdays and Sundays until late at night nobody can respond to complaints and nobody can see that this is not a healthy situation at all.
