Have you ever heard anyone say, “All roads lead to Rome”?
Many people use this phrase to express their belief that all religions lead to God. If that were true, things would be great, and Heaven would be a happy place filled with a variety of people from all sorts of religions.
But what if all religions don’t lead to God? What if the one that you embrace leads to a “cul-de-sac”? Even within one religion, such as Christianity, you have so many paths to choose from. There seems to be divisions among Islamic people too!
Over the years, religion has divided humanity. In fact, religion has been used to foster distrust, even violent hatred, towards people whose beliefs differ from ours.
The New Testament seldom uses the word ‘religion’ in a positive light. In fact, most of Jesus’ enemies were so-called ‘religious people’. And His harshest words of condemnation were reserved for … yes, you guessed it, ‘religious people’.
The Bible provides a clear and simple description of what God sees as ‘religion’.
It says, in James 1:27, “Religion that God accepts as pure and faultless is this, to look after orphans and widows in their distress…”
