I am sure we have all seen the recent billboards that have made an appearance in Krugersdorp, namely: ‘Krugersdorp is about to lose their virginity’ and ‘I swing both ways but I always use a condom’.
I am sure that the marketing teams behind these billboards are completely thrilled that they are getting a reaction. After all, you want to create some sort of reaction when someone reads your ‘masterpiece’. We are all adults and I am sure that we all enjoy being a little bit naughty every now and again, and in a perfect world, this type of marketing strategy would be acceptable. But unfortunately, young children have been exposed to these campaigns, and parents have been put on the spot to answer the questions that their inquisitive children have.
The birds do it and the bees do it, but do our children really need to know about it before they are ready? Is society pressuring our children into growing up to soon?
Our children deserve an innocent childhood, and marketing companies need to think further than their noses when trying to be controversial. There is a line, and it should not be crossed.
