I was watering the lawn on the sidewalk outside my home on Amajuba Street, Noordheuwel recently, round about noon, when a woman drove past and shouted at me to obey the water restrictions.
She did not stop to hear my response.
It appears that the thought that some people are fortunate and blessed to have boreholes and that they are not subject to water restrictions, did not occur to her.
Property owners with boreholes are using water responsibly and reducing the demand for municipal water.
I am sure this is welcomed by municipalities. The use of borehole water is not depriving anybody of water and is of no use to anybody unless it’s pumped out.
Municipal water has in any event become so expensive that very few can afford to water gardens with it, even if there are no water restrictions.
