Very concerned about drug use and the youth

A concerned friend, family member and citizen of Krugersdorp writes:

As a young adult , I have noticed that drug use in Krugersdorp and Roodepoort is really getting out of hand.

I feel that nearly every second person from the ages of 16 to 23 is sniffing something or engaging in weed smoking. I am really curious about how readily available these drugs are nowadays. Where do they buy them – at school, sports clubs, bars and clubs or on the streets? How are they getting money for these drugs?

Are parents aware of exactly what their kids are doing and the dangers thereof? What are we going to do as a community to stop this? It is disgusting how our future generation is messing up their lives. The scary thing is they think it’s a big joke, fun and games. The problem is some people are in too deep … for some of them, the only way out is an overdose.

The realisation will hit friends and family … but, by that time it’s too late. It has also been mentioned to me that there’s a club in Midrand which a lot of youngsters go to on Saturday nights and engage in communal recreational drug use while listening to music.

Where are their parents? Do they allow this? What do they tell their parents to get out of the house? I’m writing as a concerned member of this generation.

I don’t want to lose friends and family because I was too scared to mention that this is happening in my community.
