Dear Madam Mayor Lynn Pannall.
Congratulations on being elected the new mayor of our town. I am sure we will be seeing much needed changes in Mogale soon. May I humbly suggest that you put the following on your to do list:
1. Our town has become polluted with “abortion” and “penis enlargement” posters. Every pole, wall, electricity box, etc. is covered with this objectionable advertising. The police allege they cannot trace the person behind these posters as he keeps changing his cell number. But how do his customers manage to get hold of him? We know the police in Krugersdorp are too busy picking up foreigners to elicit money from them. They do not have time to fight crime. I suggest that you, as the new mayor, instruct the Council’s health department to investigate and bring to trial this person responsible for disfiguring our town. If convicted, I suggest the Court gives him a year or two jail sentence, suspended on condition that he cleans up every one of his posters on every pole and wall.
2. The amount of litter in parts of Munsieville is shocking. I suggest the council place refuse bins in strategic places for the residents to put their rubbish into. Jobs can also be created for people to keep the streets clean. It is unacceptable that people have to live under such unhealthy conditions.
3. The play park erected in Munsieville was an excellent idea and really makes life better for the youngsters. But again, put up signs for the kids to deposit their litter in the bins provided. And the beautiful trees planted desperately need attention. Some of them have fallen over and will soon be broken off if not tied up again. Come on, Parks Department!
4. The timing of traffic lights at some intersections have not been re-set since Jan van Riebeeck’s last visit to Krugersdorp. Get a team to evaluate our intersections and time the lights accordingly.
5. The new pavement project is worth it. However, the “cement pole and ball” decoration is unnecessary. And it certainly doubles the cost of the project. Already some of the poles have been knocked over and balls have gone missing.
6. The street lights along the Sterkfontein/ Hekpoort road has been down for more than a year. I have been calling the street lights department for months on end and Thabiso, Tumi and Thabego there all know me by now but, alas, the street remains dark.
7. I suggest the News creates a column called ‘Tips for Lynn’ where residents of Krugersdorp can bring to our mayor’s attention problems in our town that need fixing. Together, we can make Mogale City great again!
* Thank you for your suggestion. If more of these ‘tips for the Mayor’ letters come through, I will certainly take establishing the column into consideration – Ed.
