Why do we pay so much more for electricity?

Mark Barnabas from Krugersdorp writes:

I would like to know what the Mayor’s response is with regard to the spike in electricity [tariffs] in Mogale City.

I have asked on several occasions, and the former Mayor did not respond at all. I fail to understand how residents with prepaid meters can use so much electricity per day, even when the residents are following the rules by switching off the stove and geyser for most of the day.

The complex that I live in has the Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) switch physically built into our boxes. The geyser switches off automatically three times a day.

What I also fail to understand is when I, who live in Monument, purchase a R100 token, I get about 45 units, but when my friends in Randfontein purchase a R100 token, they get more units, and they last longer.

We urgently need an investigation into MCLM. This is unacceptable!
