Beware of scamster upholsterer

Ashleigh Winterfeld from Krugersdorp writes:

There is woman claiming to be an upholsterer. We, like many others, have gone to her to do work for us. We asked her to do cushions for a cane suite that we have. She came and measured and we chose the fabric. We paid her R3 500 for this job … this was a year ago.

Upon confronting her, she came with many excuses, one being that she had to pay for her son’s funeral because he had passed away – but strangely enough we spotted him at a local bistro (owned by family). He was confronted and said he would chat to his mother to find out what was going on, but we never heard back from him.

When I confronted her about this excuse, it changed to her husband passing away, not her son. We went to a couple of upholstery companies and got talking about her only to find out that she was using their names and sending the items to them and never paying the upholstery company. She scammed one company out of R30 000.

I then decided enough is enough, so I named and shamed her, and wasn’t really surprised to find that there are many people she did this to. She then tried to threaten me with attorneys. We came to an agreement that she would pay R2 500 back to us.

This was well over a month ago. Now she just ignores me.

This is not about the money any more, it’s about getting her to stop doing this to more people.
