Giving to the less fortunate must be an act of humanity through instinctive caring for fellow human beings.
It must not be treated as a social obligation or a conscience-cleansing practice by the public figures and politicians.
Though politically it has become a trend to be seen giving to the needy through social responsibility budgets from the council, a certain EFF Party Representative Councillor in Mogale City believes that as a public figure one should not only use municipal allocated funds but also tap into one’s personal finances to stretch the opportunity of giving to the needy.
Hence he gave school uniforms to five deserving learners at Ntuthukweni Primary in Kagiso, and he will be giving uniforms to another five deserving learners in Thembile Primary, also in Kagiso, Mogale City.
The understanding of the African philosophy of ubuntu cannot be reduced to a social responsibility policy but must remain an important programme to build the co-existence of human beings.
He doesn’t understand why learners can go to school without uniforms after 23 years of democracy, more especially in Gauteng. Therefore he urges public figures and business people to come on board in helping the needy learners and community without being prompted by their social responsibility policy.
