Election time means protest time about lack of housing and basic services.
The ANC has governed for the last 25 years and should have delivered these services. Unfortunately the emphasis over the last 25 years has not been on the provision of housing and basic services but rather on the theft of taxpayers’ money through bribery, fraud and corruption.
ANC candidates are rushing around the country, promising voters the sun, moon and stars if they are voted back into power. The ANC will win the election and in five years’ time, once again the protests will start just before the elections because of the lack of housing and basic services. Will the voters ever learn? Why should the ANC worry about keeping the voters happy? They know they will win the next election so the lack of housing and basic services will continue, and so will the bribery and corruption.
With reference to the protests, this seems like a competition to see which protest can cause the most disruption, destruction and looting. After all, that’s all these protests mean. Nothing is gained by them.
