With reference to the editor’s note which featured in the 24 May edition of the News, espousing the virtues of the “bin scavengers”, may I point out that while they do a worthwhile job in recycling the plastic, the overwhelming reaction is annoyance because after they have sorted out what plastic they want, prior to taking it to the recyclers, they tend to throw the plastic, cardboard and paper they do not want down next to the bins and leave the area looking like a pigsty.
I have seen them throw cartons, bottle caps and other plastic into the canal that runs between Commissioner/ Wagen and Rustenburg/ Naudé Streets.
That canal is now beginning to resemble a rubbish dump and stinks to high heaven.
Why do they take the plastic bottles and throw the caps away? Are the caps not plastic as well?
Just querying.
