I would like to reply to the response published from the spokesperson of Mogale City Local Municipality regarding his letter Mogale City considers relief for the elderly.
I cannot believe that Novus Mmemezi replied to the letter regarding Pensioners rebate snubbed and ignored that they were not aware of the petition submitted to them.
We have proof in our possession of a stamped and signed copy that was received by Mogale City council. So how can Mmemezi say they were not aware of it? This is just a fabrication and a blatant lie to cover up their incompetence and inability that we in Mogale City have to put up with. The right hand does not know what the left hand is doing.
Secondly, the writer asked why Mogale ignored the petition handed in to them, and not about the different categories pensioners fall into, which we are all aware of, anyway.
Mmemezi totally and utterly evaded the question as to why they ignored our petition to askg for an increase in the rebate from 45 per cent to 65 per cent, but he gave a mumble jumble reply about different categories pensioners fall into. He couldn’t tell the truth that they did in fact receive the petition and simply gave a hogwash reply to pacify pensioners!
Stating that ‘Mogale City considers relief for the elderly’ is not the whole truth at all. If this was the case, then the rebate requested would have been increased substantially by Mogale City, including the rebate on the market value.
Thirdly, the Ietter was also not referring to property rates alone, but to the rebate percentage as a whole for pensioners set at only 45 per cent when the City of Joburg gives pensioners a 100 per cent rebate. In comparison to Johannesburg, 45 per cent is absolutely disgusting, considering the increases in most municipal rates. Mogale City Council should be ashamed to even have this published.
Then pensioners receive no additional relief on sanitation rates increases at all and pensioners still pay 15 per cent VAT on it as well.
Mogale City council has nothing to brag about – instead they should be absolutely embarrassed and ashamed of themselves.
